Love Food Hate Waste
In New Zealand, we throw away 122,547 tonnes of food annually, enough to feed 262,917 people or double the population of Dunedin for a year. New Zealanders spend $872 million on food that will be thrown away uneaten. The average Kiwi household send the equivalent of three shopping trolleys of edible food to the landfill each year (about 79kg).
The Mackenzie District Council is proud to be involved with the nationwide Love Food Hate Waste campaign, which aims to help us save money and reduce food waste.
Join the hundreds of people around the country who are making an effort to stop wasting food. Start by doing just one thing differently and enjoy the money you can save.
