Water Maintenance
Repairs to Clayton Road Water Main - Friday 19 September onwards
Council staff and contractors are preparing to replace approximately 400m of water pipe on Clayton Road. Procurement of materials is underway, and the work is expected take about a week to complete.

The issue relates to approximately 400 meters of low-pressure pipe that was installed some years ago. The intake that feeds water into this line does not have adequate screening to stop stones entering the pipe and these stones are preventing a pressure reducing valve from operating correctly. This means the pressure in the pipe can rise to a level which is higher than the pipe can withstand.

So what is happening? Picture a straw that is now bulging to double its size until it bursts. There have been several breaks over the last few weeks and there are likely to be more. The breaks are quite spectacular when they go!

Screening at the intake will take some time to implement, and so the best solution is to upgrade the pipe to one with a higher pressure rating.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while we resolve this issue.

Boil Water notices
Boil Water Notice: Allandale Rural Water Scheme - 23 October 2025
A Boil Water Notice has been issued for Allandale Rural Water Scheme effective immediately.
This means that all residents connected to the Allandale Rural Water Scheme are advised to boil their drinking water until further notice.
What you need to do
- Boil all water for used for drinking, preparing food, making baby formula and juices, cooking, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, or brushing teeth.
- Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute, then allow to cool before using.
- Alternatively, use bottled water.
- Unboiled water can still be used for showering, bathing, and other household uses, but avoid swallowing the water.
- Supervise children when using water.
Why this is necessary
The boil water notice is required because recent rainfall has meant that turbidity levels in the water are high. Turbidity is the term used to describe the cloudy appearance which is caused by particles of silt, soil and vegetation suspended in the water.
When turbidity levels are high the suspended particles can make chlorination less effective at making the water safe.
How long will this last?
The notice will remain in place until water testing shows that turbidity levels have returned to normal and the supply is safe again. Updates will be provided through:
- Mackenzie District Council’s Website
- Updates to the post on Council's facebook page.
