Alex Reid has followed his dream to be in an industry which is creative and will allow his personality to shine.
After taking a gap year, Alex approached local hairdressers, in Timaru and Fairlie, to discuss the possibility of gaining an apprenticeship.
Sam McFarlane, owner of Boss Salons in Fairlie, seen the potential in Alex and offered him the opportunity to join her business.
Alex has started his pre-course classes, with his apprenticeship starting early this year.
Sam met with Leaine Rush, Mayors Taskforce for Jobs (MTFJ) co-ordinator, to discuss funding opportunities and was successful in receiving funding to assist with purchasing Alex his own scissors and training heads, vital tools when learning the trade.
The Mackenzie District Council and MTFJ wish Alex all the best with his new career.
