Whitestone Contracting are working on the Market Place gardens for approximately two weeks from 3 May.
The work is to renew and refresh the gardens with removal of plants that are past their best, or are creating pathway hazards. These will be replaced by a variety of New Zealand native plants.
The work will appear quite extensive with removal of most flaxes requiring a small excavator. The new plants will be planted with a soil conditioner to improve their growing conditions.
The contractors will endeavour to undertake the works with the minimum of disruption to the public using Market Place.
Several paths adjacent to the gardens will be closed for the duration of the work. While a number of plant beds are close to the shops, we do not expect access to shops to be significantly affected.
