Feral cats have been spotted at the top end of Lake Ruataniwha. These are a pest which which poses a significant risk to native birdlife in the area.
Contractors will be starting a trapping operation on Monday 15 August until the end of October targeting these predators.
The public is asked to please leave traps as you find them.
If you are the owner of a cat you no longer want, please contact your nearest SPCA. Domestic cats should never be released into the wild as even slow, fluffy Tigger can turn into a rapacious predator of native species.
