Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has just released their ‘Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan’ for consultation. The purpose of this plan is “to enable Waka Kotahi to share how it intends to manage speed limits over the next two years through to June 2024”.
Council intends to respond to this consultation with a submission, and we want to know if you agree with our ideas.
The Plan shows the areas that Waka Kotahi are intending to focus on during this time. At present there are no areas in our district where they planning to make changes. However, we are intending to ask them to consider speed limit changes in some specific areas.
We believe that it is important to send this information to Waka Kotahi now because the next opportunity to have a discussion of state highway speed limits in Mackenzie may not be for another 12-18 months. We want to get our district towns on the table for future consideration and believe this is a useful avenue to start this process.
However, this will be coming back to you at a later date to continue this conversation in more detail.
