Contractors have commenced rabbit control at the Lake Alexandrina Huts, Tekapo, on behalf of Mackenzie District Council, from Wednesday 25 May.
We have been in contact with the Hutt holders (presidents), Environment Canterbury and adjacent landowners at Balmoral station. Signs have been placed at all the entries to the Hut areas. Pindone is distributed via carrots which are dyed green and are toxic to people and animals. Poison bait and carcasses are deadly to dogs.
Everyone is asked to take care if in the impacted area.
The combination of activity in the Glenmore, Balmoral and the Alexandrina Hut areas means we have a real chance of seriously impacting rabbit numbers in the area.
