Representation Review - 2022

The Local Government Commission has approved the council’s proposed changes to representation in the Mackenzie District.

This confirms that at the next election – to be held this October - the Mackenzie District will be divided into three wards – Pukaki, Opuha and Tekapo.

The Council shall comprise of the Mayor and 7 members who shall be elected as follows –

  1. 3 councillors elected by the electors of Pukaki ward
  2. 3 councillors elected by the electors of Opuha ward
  3. 1 councillor elected by the electors of Tekapo ward

(The number of councillors is determined by the population of each ward area)

There shall be three communities as follows:

  1. Twizel Community comprising the area of Pukaki ward.
  2. Tekapo Community comprising the area of Tekapo ward.
  3. Fairlie Community, comprising the area of Opuha ward.

The membership of the community board for each community shall be as follows:

  1. The Twizel Community Board will comprise four elected members and one member appointed to the community board by the council representing Pukaki ward.
  2. The Tekapo Community Board will comprise four elected members and one member appointed to the community board by the Council representing Tekapo ward.
  3. The Fairlie Community Board will comprise four elected members and one member appointed to the community board by the Council representing Opuha ward.
