The Mackenzie District Council and Canterbury Regional Council (Environment Canterbury) have received applications from A W & K F Simpson (the applicants) for resource consents to construct and operate a solar array on a 113ha area of land on Balmoral Station, 397 Braemar Road, Lake Tekapo.
The applicants have applied for the following resource consent from the Mackenzie District Council: RM220048 – to construct and operate a solar array on the application site with a maximum generation capacity of approximately 88MW to be undertaken in two phases.
The proposal will include both temporary and permanent buildings, fencing, earthworks, formation of access, internal tracks and hardstand, the laying of underground cables, storage of hazardous substances and vegetation clearance.
The applicants have also applied for the following resource consents from the Canterbury Regional Council:
- CRC224567 – to undertake a total volume of 13,074m3 of earthworks over a total area of 27,372m2 (2.74ha or 2.4% of the application site) associated with the construction of a solar array.
- CRC230898 – to discharge operational stormwater from panels, buildings and facilities forming a solar array to ground using swales or similar features. A consent duration of 35 years is sought.
