Rates Installment 2 and FAQ

As signaled earlier this year, Council has experienced delays with preparation and adoption of the Long Term Plan. This has impacted production of invoices for the second instalment of rates. To minimise inconvenience to ratepayers, Council has changed the due date for payment of instalment 2 to 30 December 2021 instead of the usual 20 December.

Mackenzie District Council Offices and Facilities at COVID Traffic Light - Orange

Vaccine certificates will be mandatory for people wanting to use Mackenzie District Council recreation centres and community halls from Friday. Certificates will also be required for anyone visiting council offices in Fairlie or Twizel, and for those attending council and community board meetings. Children under 12 are exempt from the requirements.

Maintenance work is taking place over this week (29 November - 3 December) on pine trees at Lakeside Drive, Tekapo.

Lake Tekapo - planned lake water spill into Tekapo River

Genesis advise that Lake Tekapo is currently approaching its Maximum Control Level, due to recent rainfall and inflows.

Annual Awards for Secondary School Students

Mackenzie District Council offer two annual scholarships to secondary school students within the Mackenzie District - The Bruce Scott Memorial Prize and Mackenzie County Educational Scholarship. Closing date for applications is Wednesday November 10.

Council's Long-term Plan (LTP) outlines to our community how we intend to invest over the next 10 years. We want to share our plans for the next ten years and give you the opportunity to let us know what you think. All the feedback received will be considered before we finalise and adopt the plan.

Three Waters - Mackenzie District Council response

The Mackenzie District Council opposes the Crowns’ proposed model to establish four large water entities and remove the three waters assets and services from local councils based on the information supplied by the Crown to date.

Council has reviewed the Mobile Shops and Traders Bylaw 2014, and proposes to revoke the Bylaw and replace with a new Mobile Shops and Traders Bylaw 2021.

Drinking water regulator Taumata Arowai, is currently considering how small 'remote' rural suppliers ensure drinking water safety.

Council has approved funds to improve heating facilities at the community pools in Twizel and Fairlie.

Kerbside Collections & Resource Recovery Parks (Level 2)

Kerbside collections take place from Monday to Thursday. All Resource Recovery Parks and clean fill sites are open at Level 2.

COVID-19: Level 2 Information

Council have activated Level 2 protocols following the Prime Minister's announcement. Council staff are on site at the Fairlie and Twizel offices. Public health rules concerning Level 2 are being followed.

Community Board meetings in Twizel, Tekapo and Fairlie will go ahead as scheduled next week but will take place online instead of at the usual location.
